Write Anyway: How to Get Words on the Page When You’re Not Feeling It

You Don’t Have to Be in the Mood to Write

Laptop open. Cursor blinking. No words in sight.

Sound familiar?

Let’s debunk one of the most common lies writers tell themselves:

“I’m just not in the mood to write today.”

Here’s the truth (with love):
If you wait until you feel like writing, your book may never get finished.

The “perfect mood”? It’s a myth.
The muse? She’s unreliable at best.
And your story? It deserves more than waiting around for magic to strike.

The secret to finishing isn’t inspiration. It’s consistency.
It’s showing up when it’s inconvenient.
It’s writing the “meh” scene so the next one can shine. (You can edit it later. Or even cut it!)
It’s choosing progress over perfection.

Sure, writing can be joyful. It can even be magical. But sometimes?
It’s just you, your keyboard, and the decision to write anyway.

The writers who finish their books are the ones who show up… especially on the messy days.

So if today’s a blah day, write anyway.
Write badly. Write annoyed. Write with cold coffee and zero inspiration.

Just write.

And if you’re stuck? That’s what coaching is for.
